- What's the current state in Munster?
Mechthild Großmann (75), a long-time star of the "Münster-Tatort", is set to depart after a few more appearances. But what's next for Thiel and Boerne's famous "Tatort" duo, following the exit of chief prosecutor Wilhelmine Klemm and their boss? Both Prahl and Liefers share their thoughts on the matter.
The German broadcaster WDR recently announced that Großmann, who has been a part of the series for over 22 years, will be leaving her role. She will appear in three upcoming episodes before venturing into new projects.
As the actress noted in a press release, "When the final 'Münster-Tatort' featuring me airs at the end of 2025, I will be 77 years old, and I have no plans to retire. I will continue to work in theater, give readings, and even take on villainous roles if the WDR ever needs one. I'm also open to playing a murderous antagonist."
Thiel and Boerne aren't giving up just yet
According to a report by "Bild" newspaper, there are ongoing discussions about replacing Großmann. The Münster team aims to solve at least 50 cases in the near future. In an interview with a daily newspaper, Liefers expressed his sadness at his colleague's departure and looked forward to "spending the next three episodes together until the end of 2025."
When asked about his own potential departure from the "Münster-Tatort", Prahl joked, "Axel and I are going down with the 'Titanic', just like Benjamin Guggenheim. We're helping everyone into the lifeboats, putting on our tuxedos, and going down with a good whiskey in hand." Céline Dion (56) will be our musical send-off, added the Boerne actor. And Liefers concluded, "As long as the music's playing, the party's not over. We're still whistling merrily. But we're not ready to hit the snooze button just yet."
Here's hoping the party continues even beyond the 50th milestone. Because if the curtain falls for Boerne and Thiel, it might happen sooner than some "Tatort" enthusiasts would prefer. So far, 45 cases have been aired, and the 46th "Münster-Tatort," titled "Man dies only twice," is currently scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2024.
