Weekly Style Highlight: Rihanna's Cozy Fluffy Bathrobe
Stepping into your bathroom, you've received a seal of approval reminiscent of Rihanna's style. At the UK launch of her newest beauty venture, Fenty Hair, the international superstar posed for photos outside famous London department store, Selfridges, not in high-end fabrics like satin or silk, but in a cozy bathrobe.
The light-colored, plush robe was designed by Jacquemus and styled by Jaheel Weaver, paired with gold point-toe pumps and long crystal earrings. It initially graced the runway during their June 2024 Fall-Winter collection in Capri.
On the catwalk, it was the type of attire that you'd imagine a wealthy Italian woman wearing in the privacy of her home – or at most, on the balcony of an old mansion, enjoying a glass of wine. Yet on Rihanna, with her face adorned in full glam and her hair slicked back into shiny black waves, the bathroom essential was transformed into sophisticated, enviable evening wear.
Rihanna wasn't the first to try to elevate a housecoat to a haute couture status; in 2017, singer Rita Ora graced the MTV EMAs red carpet with her hair wrapped in a towel and wearing a white, crystallized towel robe and heels. She was bedazzled in diamonds, from her necklaces to her earrings, and even bore a faux hotel logo on her robe. The ensemble was the creation of Palomo Spain. Ora continued the jest during her live performance, changing into a shorter bathrobe.
More recently, Isabelle Huppert has been advocating for bathrobe-inspired textiles to receive the red carpet treatment. At this year's Cannes Film Festival, Huppert donned a fuzzy Balenciaga robe, tied at the waist and enhanced with her typical dark sunglasses, multiple De Beers necklaces, and a disheveled bob. She completed the look with Balenciaga flesh-toned 'pantaboots,' adding to the high-fashion illusion of having just stepped out of the shower.
Now, anyone can feel as glamorous as Rihanna – all from their own comfortable abode.
Rihanna's bathroom robe, styled with gold pumps and earrings, showcases how fashion can elevate even everydaystyle items. In fact, many celebrities have experimented with turning bathrobes into high-end fashion, such as Rita Ora at the MTV EMAs and Isabelle Huppert at the Cannes Film Festival.
