FC Bayern Munich - "We always had to build a new home": Thomas Tuchel talks about his family and divorce

For Thomas Tuchel, working at illustrious coaching positions has always brought with it personal challenges. "We always had to build a new home and we did it every time. We were always traveling with the whole family," said the FC Bayern Munich coach at the Ispo sporting goods trade fair. "Now, unfortunately, my personal family situation has changed a bit due to my divorce. Until then, it was normal for us and very nice that we were always traveling as a family."

It wasn't always easy for his wife and daughters (12 and 14), said Tuchel. Before Munich, he worked in London at Chelsea FC and Paris Saint-Germain. Before that, he worked at Dortmund and Mainz.

Thomas Tuchel: "They had to leave their friends, their schools

"They had to leave their friends, their schools and start all over again. There are always two sides. But we always had a home where I could feel safe and calm and completely private," reported Tuchel. "I realized more and more that I needed certain places in an apartment or a house. Where I can read a book, have a cup of coffee."

Tuchel also took time out between stations. "Before, I thought I would travel around the world and visit every continent and everything and climb every mountain and learn to play golf and piano and whatever. In the end it was basically like that, taking the girls to school and picking them up from school," said Tuchel. Everyday things calmed him down and did him good. He spent time with family and friends.

Sport also dominates the TV favorites

"I'm good at being lazy, I'm good at doing nothing when I don't have a job," said Tuchel. It's nice to go on vacation when no one else can. However, as a professional coach, you are also in a privileged position to be able to afford that.

Tuchel also revealed what he watches on television. "Normally, I only ever watch soccer. I also watch documentaries about soccer and general sport," said the 50-year-old. You can also learn or understand a lot from other sports. But sometimes he also watches series. Succession was a recent favorite.
