Eric Dane - Was he fired from Grey's Anatomy?

Eric Dane (51) left "Grey's Anatomy" in 2012 not willingly, but was fired from the hospital series? The actor hinted at this in a podcast interview with "Armchair Expert" with Dax Shepard (49). "I didn't leave, I was let go," Dane said in the conversation.

Did Eric Dane's alleged problems with alcohol and drugs play a role in his supposed departure? "I had issues," the actor admitted in the interview. But: "They didn't fire me because of that, even though it definitely wasn't helpful."

"As long as they have their Grey, everything is in order"

The real reason for his supposed dismissal was apparently financial in nature. As an actor who had been with the show for a long time, he was very expensive for the network. And they knew, according to Dane, that some actors had no significance for the show's continuation.

"As long as they have their Grey, everything is in order," he said. With this, he was referring to Ellen Pompeo (54), the actress who plays the title character Meredith Grey. She has since left, only appearing for guest appearances. But the series continues without regular Grey.

At the time of his departure, Eric Dane was no longer the same person that the executives had hired, he revealed. Therefore, he understands the producers. He also has no bad words for the show's creator Shonda Rhimes (54).

Eric Dane explained his "Grey's Anatomy" exit earlier

Eric Dane was a cast member of "Grey's Anatomy" from 2006 to 2012, playing the surgeon Mark Sloan, also known as McSexy to fans because he was always seen only with a towel on. After his departure from the production, Eric Dane immediately joined the action series "The Last Ship." "Grey's Anatomy is a world - it's not about a single actor and the storylines went in different directions," Dane said at the time.

"It was an opportunity for me to go and I was interested in something else," the actor said about "The Last Ship." This was the official interpretation of McSexy's exit. Until now.

In the podcast interview with Dax Shepard, Eric Dane acknowledged that he wasn't voluntarily let go from playing Mark Sloan on "Grey's Anatomy", but was actually fired from the show. Despite his personal struggles with drugs, Dax Pompeo's co-star Ellen Grey, who plays Meredith Grey, remained a vital part of the series.
