Wagner brothers miss out on historic win in the NBA
The impressive winning streak of the Orlando Magic with the brothers Franz and Moritz Wagner in the NBA has come to an end. They suffered a clear defeat at the Brooklyn Nets. National team colleague Daniel Theis, on the other hand, celebrates a dramatic victory with the Clippers.
Stumbling on the last step: Basketball world champions Franz and Moritz Wagner have once again lost a game with the Orlando Magic in the NBA, missing out on the sole franchise record. After nine wins in a row, Orlando lost to the Brooklyn Nets by a clear margin of 101-129 and the team led by the Wagners must now settle for the shared record. The Magic have won nine in a row four times, most recently in the 2010/11 season, and the great team from the 1994/95 season led by Shaquille O'Neal and Penny Hardaway, runners-up at the time, also managed nine wins in a row - but not a tenth.
Orlando trailed 22:43 after the first twelve minutes on Saturday, with Mikal Bridges in particular causing problems. The forward ultimately scored 42 points. Franz Wagner was the Magic's best scorer with 20 points together with Cole Anthony, while his brother Moritz also impressed with 18 points. Nevertheless, the end result was the first defeat since November 14 - also against the Nets. However, Orlando is still clearly on course for the play-offs with a strong record of 14 wins and just six defeats. The team from Florida is second in the Eastern Conference behind the Boston Celtics.
Things went better for Daniel Theis and the Los Angeles Clippers. The team led for just nine seconds against former champions Golden State Warriors - and that was enough for victory. The final score was 113:112, with Paul George draining a three-pointer shortly before the end to give the Clippers their first and decisive lead. With the clock running down, Draymond Green missed a three-pointer to give the Warriors a possible victory. Theis came off the bench again and played his part in the win with 12 points and four rebounds.
Without Maximilian Kleber, who is still injured, the Dallas Mavericks suffered a bitter home defeat. The Texans lost 120:126 to the Oklahoma City Thunder, with Dallas recklessly throwing away a monster comeback. The Mavericks turned an 87:111 deficit into a temporary six-point lead with a 30:0 run in the final quarter, but were not able to hold on to it. Superstar Luka Doncic nevertheless put in a strong performance with 36 points and 18 assists.
