Vettel ascends into Senna's fabled F1 vehicle.

Almost three decades after Ayrton Senna's untimely demise at Imola, Sebastian Vettel pays homage to the F1 superstar with a series of memorial events. The four-time world championship winner from Germany unites drivers from the pinnacle of motorsport around Max Verstappen for a solemn track run at Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari on Thursday. They'll meet at the start-finish line and take a brief moment to honor Senna near the memorial in Tamburello corner.

Vettel intends to drive a McLaren MP4/8 on race Sunday, a car Senna once piloted during his stint at McLaren before joining Williams. The Mclaren MP4/8 is a historical reminder of the indelible impact Senna had on the world of motorsport, before his fateful crash during the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. Ayrton lost control of his car in the Tamburello corner and collided with a wall, resulting in fatal injuries.

To honor his memory, Vettel will drive the iconic car around the circuit after the drivers' parade. The German driver's motto for these activities, "Forever Senna," is a testimony to the immense impact the Brazilian legend left on the motor racing fraternity. Sebastian has also commissioned commemorative T-shirts, each featuring a photo of his idol. The proceeds from sales will be donated to charity, with fifty percent going to the Senna Foundation.

Vettel celebrates Senna's sympathies

"I was only 7 when Senna met his accident. My father shared his admiration for Senna, revealing how Senna was an exceptional driver. He bought me a Senna doll and a toy car years ago," narrated Vettel, who never had a personal encounter with the Brazilian F1 icon but learned about him from dialogues in the paddock.

"I discovered that he was an incredible driver, but he also showed compassion and empathy towards the challenges of social hardships and poverty in his homeland, Brazil," Vettel reminisced.

What's next for Vettel after F1?

Vettel retired from Formula 1 at the conclusion of the 2022 season, trading the racetrack for more time with his family and other projects. His connection with Mercedes has intensified with the recent announcement that Lewis Hamilton would switch to Ferrari in 2025. This development has led to speculation about Vettel potentially taking over Hamilton's role at the Silver Arrows.

Born in Heppenheim, Germany, Vettel has made his mark in Formula 1 with extensive laurels, including four championship titles. He debuted in 2006 with BMW Sauber and continued his journey with Scuderia Toro Rosso, Red Bull Racing, and Aston Martin prior to his recent exit. Now, he's using this season to commemorate one of his inspirational heroes, paying tribute to Senna through diverse activities and events, celebrating the legend's legacy.
