Verstappen takes pole in Brazil - weather chaos in São Paulo
Max Verstappen has secured pole position for the São Paulo Grand Prix. The 26-year-old Dutchman secured first place on the grid in the Formula 1 qualifying session at the Interlagos circuit, which ended early.
Just under five minutes before the actual end of the session, the race stewards declared the knockout elimination to be over. The weather conditions were extremely poor. It was pitch dark and a heavy downpour then flooded the track.
Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari finished second behind Red Bull driver Verstappen, ahead of the Aston Martin duo of Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso. Nico Hülkenberg missed out on the top ten and finished eleventh in the Haas. As a sprint race is taking place in Brazil for the last time this year on Saturday, qualifying for the Grand Prix was held on Friday.
