US triumphs in Copa América opener after Christian Pulisic's breathtaking strike against Bolivia

The US team started the match on a high note, scoring an impressive goal just three minutes in, leaving the home team's nerves settled. The captain took charge and executed a smooth finish over the Bolivian goalkeeper following a well-executed corner.

The young 25-year-old captain soon became the provider, setting up Folarin Balogun for the team's second goal before halftime within Arlington's AT&T Stadium.

This tournament is taking place in the US for the second time, serving as a practice run for when the country co-hosts the World Cup in 2026.

Following the game, Pulisic told FOX Soccer that they came out strong with intensity and that the early goal gave them a significant boost. He admitted that the games will become progressively tougher as the tournament progresses.

Superior in both quality and experience, the US team easily defeated a Bolivian team that failed to make much of an impact. However, the hosts missed several chances to extend their lead.

Balogun believed he had scored a third goal for the US, but his effort in the 53rd minute was disallowed due to an offside in the buildup.

Ahead lies tougher challenges

In their next Group C match, the US will face Panama. For their final group game, they will face a significantly tougher test against Uruguay.

Despite possessing several skilled players like Timothy Weah, Pulisic, and Balogun, there are still doubts about the US men's ability to consistently compete against teams outside their CONCACAF region.

If they advance further in the tournament, they will have the opportunity to silence those doubts, but only with their star players performing at their best.

US head coach Gregg Berhalter praised Pulisic's "dangerous" play after the game, stating that getting the early goal was crucial in relieving any pressure. He also mentioned that it's important to win the first game and improve their performance throughout the tournament, considering it a good starting point.

Pulisic's effort curled over Bolivia's goalkeeper Guillermo Viscarra's outstretched arm.
