"The Final Chapter of Us" or "The End of Us" - Upcoming season to be less prolonged.

"The Last of Us" continues to captivate audiences, although with fewer episodes than fans anticipated. However, there's a silver lining - creators and showrunners Craig Mazin (53) and Neil Druckmann (45) revealed to "Deadline" that the second season will comprise seven episodes. They also teased the potential for more seasons in the future.

Be assured, fans, Mazin declared. The reason for a smaller season this time isn't due to lesser time invested in storytelling, but rather to allocate more time. As he elaborated, "The story we're telling in season two is far more expansive than the one in season one." This means more action, which would inevitably be more challenging to produce, in the showrunner's words. "But our aim is for each episode to resemble a standalone blockbuster."

Season three and four may be in the works if the current season is successful and draws viewers, according to Mazin. "We realized early on that there was a substantial amount of story material from part two of the game, so we planned ahead for multiple seasons. Season two's seven episodes marked a natural stopping point, he said. "However, since we have more content, it's very likely season three will be larger, and the story could even necessitate season four."

"Deadline" further disclosed that Jeffrey Wright (58), the fan-favorite actor from "Westworld," has joined the cast of the post-apocalyptic HBO series.

"The Last of Us," based on the eponymous video game series, kickstarted its first season in January 2023, garnering immense praise for the showrunners. HBO scored a major victory with their adaptation of the game, pleasing fans and newcomers alike. Starring Pedro Pascal (49) and Bella Ramsey (20) as Joel and Ellie, respectively, the show is expected to return for season two later this year.
