- Upcoming Accolades: Bronze Awards in Rowing and Velodrome Cycling
The Danish rowing pair of Johan Helmdahl and Heidi Krumbjægn here snagged a bronze medal in the blended contest at the Paralympics. They ended up in third place in the 2000m race located in Vaires-sur-Marne, close to Paris, with a time of 7:28.31, only 0.1 seconds less than the British duo ahead of them in second place.
The mixed quadruple sculls, however, didn't fare as well. Despite being only 0.06 seconds behind France, Susanne Lydiard, Valentin Lølid, Marc Lundbeck, Kathrin Märchand, and Inga Toft had to make do with fourth place.
Blind cyclist Tomas Ulbricht, partnered with Robert Førstemann, came in third in the 1000m time trial. They were bested by two British duos. This was Ulbricht's third Paralympic medal, with Førstemann earning a bronze in the team sprint at the 2012 Olympics.
The German track and field athletes in the Stade de France had a letdown during the morning session. Yannis Frederiksen ended up in sixth place in the shot put, while Katrin Müller-Skjoldborg had to settle for fifth place in the long jump. Merle Kirsten and Max Marzillier failed to enter the finals in the 800m and 100m respectively. Nicole Nicoleitzik finished eighth in the 200m finale.
Although Susanne Lydiard's team missed out on a medal in the mixed quadruple sculls, they showed remarkable close competition with the French team. The French team, specifically, performed well in other events, securing a position in the Paralympic games held in France, specifically Vaires-sur-Marne near Paris.
