- Unreleased song coming in September
Legendary singer Udo Jürgens (1934-2014) would have turned 90 in 2024, and the anniversary of his death, just before Christmas, will also be marked this year. To commemorate this, a collection of 90 singles will soon be released, including a previously unreleased track as a bonus.
The song, titled "Als ich fortging" (When I Left), was found in Jürgens' estate as a rough mix, which he composed and recorded himself. Drummer Curt Cress (72), who also played on Jürgens' classic "Ich war noch niemals in New York", has freshly arranged and produced "Als ich fortging".
Cress recalls, "Udo was always an experience, both in the studio and privately. Producing this music for him was sometimes eerie and always an emotional rollercoaster."
New single out on September 20
"Als ich fortging" will be released as a single on September 20, ahead of the planned album "udo 90", which will be out on September 27. The album will contain 90 other singles released in the German-speaking world between 1956 and 2014, curated by Jürgens' children John (60) and Jenny (57). "udo 90" will be available in three formats: a 90-single CD box, a double CD with 42 selected tracks, and a double LP with 23 singles, all including the bonus track "Als ich fortging".
Additionally, "Da Capo Udo Jürgens" will premiere this fall. The show features the music legend on an LED wall, accompanied by his original orchestra, conducted by his long-time collaborator Pepe Lienhard (78). For more information about the tour, visit "udojuergens.de".
