Union coach Grote: Cooperation with Eta on an equal footing
Union Berlin's new coach Marco Grote is a proponent of flat hierarchies. "The collaboration with (assistant coach) Marie-Louise Eta is on an equal footing. There are no big differences. We divide it up completely," said the 51-year-old ahead of his first match in the Bundesliga with the Köpenickers this Saturday (3.30pm/Sky) against FC Augsburg.
Following the release of Urs Fischer, Grote and Eta will lead training at the Alte Försterei. It remains to be seen whether the two will only form a short-term interim duo or even become a permanent solution. Grote said that he is planning until Augsburg for the time being. "I honestly don't know anything else. It's not that I'm particularly itchy either," said the Bremen native.
He and Eta already know each other from their time together at Werder, after which they both worked together at Union's U19s. "I really appreciate her. She's a very open person and really enjoys the game and working with people. I really enjoy working with her and I work very well with her," said Grote.
Eta is the first female assistant coach in Bundesliga history. Grote has absolutely no interest in a gender debate. "In the coaching booth, it's all about a human fit. Whether someone is a little taller, maybe has a bigger belly or what T-shirt they wear, long hair, short hair - I don't give a damn."
Grote mentioned that his collaboration with Marie-Louise Eta, the first female assistant coach in Bundesliga history, at Union Berlin is on equal footing, and they divide their responsibilities without any significant differences. In their past, Grote and Eta worked together at Werder Bremen's U19 team.
