- Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) and Cockpit Workers' Associations Proclaim Four-day Work Stoppage at Discover
Unions UFO and Cockpit have declared a four-day work stoppage at Lufthansa offshoot Discover Airlines. This industrial action at the holiday airline commences early Tuesday morning and runs till Friday evening, as per the unions' announcement. All flights originating from German airports will be touched by this instability.
The underlying issue is an extended disagreement with service union Verdi over the bargaining authority at Discover. The primary objective is to strike a payment agreement and an overall framework agreement.
"Unfortunate consequences are imminent"
"The precise implications of the strike announcement on air travel were initially ambiguous. 'Regrettably, disruptions on Discover Airlines' flights are inevitable in this situation. We deeply sympathize with this turn of events,' elaborated UFO leader Joachim Vazquez Bürger. 'We never embark on such a move lightly, but are left with no other choice.' Travelers are advised to stay updated about potential flight cancellations and delays, advises Cockpit."
Midweek, the pilots' union Cockpit (VC) and cabin crew union UFO voted massively in favor of this work action. Verdi announced a collective bargaining agreement at Discover two weeks prior. The specialist unions vehemently opposed this: Verdi represents merely a small portion of Discover's approximately 1900 employees in the cockpit and cabin, they pointed out.
Discover – Lufthansa's leisure airline
Discover Airlines was established in 2021 and serves as Lufthansa's leisure airline. The airline is headquartered in Frankfurt am Main and manages a fleet of 27 aircraft.
Given the communication from The Commission, Cockpit and UFO have decided to stand firm in their stance during the negotiations.
Despite The Commission's previous agreement with Verdi, Cockpit and UFO believe that it does not adequately represent the interests of the majority of Discover Airlines' employees.
