Ulm is beating hard in the second-tier reality

In the promotion duel against SSV Ulm, Jahn Regensburg can celebrate their first win of the season in the 2. Bundesliga. The opponents remain winless. For Greuther Fürth, the second matchday is a disaster - the Franconians squander a 2:0 lead against Kaiserslautern.

1. FC Kaiserslautern - SpVgg Greuther Fürth 2:2 (1:2)

SpVgg Greuther Fürth narrowly missed a dream start to the new season. In the clash of the opening match winners against 1. FC Kaiserslautern, the Franconians had to settle for a 2:2 (2:1) draw after leading 2:0 and subsequently struggling in defense.

Julian Green (31., penalty after VAR) with his second goal of the season and lively attacker Noel Futkeu (38.) scored for the Kleeblatt before the break. Kaiserslautern's equalizer through Daniel Hanslik (45.+1) was initially flattering for the Palatinates. Substitute Ragnar Ache (84.) rewarded the "Red Devils" for their tireless efforts with the equalizer eleven minutes after his introduction.

Fürth put the defensively vulnerable home team under pressure several times in the first half. Even in the early offside goal by Futkeu (8.), the team of coach Alexander Zorniger had exposed weaknesses in the FCK defense. However, after Hanslik's goal and the restart, the guests were exposed to immense pressure from FCK. Attack after attack rolled towards the Fürth goal. The Fürthers could hardly provide any relief and even had to worry about the draw in the final stages.

SSV Jahn Regensburg - SSV Ulm 1:0 (1:0)

No respite a week before the big football evening in the DFB-Pokal against FC Bayern Munich: SSV Ulm still has empty hands after the second game since their long-awaited return to the 2. Bundesliga. In their first away game after a 23-year absence from the second division, the sparrows lost 0:1 (0:1) to fellow promoted team Jahn Regensburg. Regensburg picked up their first three points after their opening defeat in Hannover. Dominik Kother (34.) scored the winning goal for the hosts in a largely uneventful game at the Regensburg Jahn Stadium.

Both teams showed defensive stability from the start, resulting in a lack of notable offensive actions. Kother then made the most of the first opportunity in the second attempt. After a free-kick cross, he initially missed with a header but then volleyed the rebound into the net from close range.

After the break, Ulm had the upper hand initially, but Felix Higl (50.) failed to beat Jahn goalkeeper Felix Gebhardt with a turn shot. Overall, there were few good scoring chances on both sides in the second half as well.

The following statement can be made about SSV Ulm's performance in the 2. Bundesliga: They are still looking for their first win of the season, as they lost 0:1 to SSV Jahn Regensburg in their away game.

To improve their record, SSV Ulm needs to add more attacking flair to their game and convert their chances more efficiently, as shown by their 0:1 defeat against Jahn Regensburg.
