Mother and daughter - Two generations of Swifties: 'I have landed them'

With me, it all started early with Taylor Swift. She is a 1989-born, I was born in 1988. I have followed her since her breakthrough and am almost an Ur-Swiftie. My first encounters with her were in 2010 while I was an Au-Pair in California. Somewhere on my old laptop, there should be a video of me singing and dancing with my au pair child to "You Belong With Me" or "Love Story". Since then, it's just been this way for years.

My daughter Luisa says yes right away when someone asks if she's a Swiftie. She grew up with her music from the start. One could say I infected her with it. Now she only needs to hear a few beats and she knows which song is coming next. "Anti-Hero" is her favorite song. She doesn't understand much English yet, but she asks me about the lyrics. She knows that it's usually about love and failed relationships.

All that glitters

For her, the costumes are the most fascinating. Everything glitters. The pink-blue Lover-Suit has captivated her the most. So we thought about how we could make it child-friendly. I sewed her a pink crop top and covered it with 4000 glitter stones, inspired by the original. As a Taylor Swift fan, you have to be pretty creative.

We're going to Munich for the Eras Tour, and the circle is complete again. There, I have a friend from my time in the USA who will accompany us to the concert. When I think of Taylor Swift, it takes me back to the time in the USA. I remember what I experienced there, the friendships I made, and the ones that still hold to this day.

Perfectly prepared for the big day

I'm not an overly anxious mother. Of course, one has to think things through when taking a six-year-old to a concert. The show lasts for three and a half hours. I'm sure she'll make it through and we're well-equipped with Traubenzucker, fruit lollies, and hearing protection headphones. I'm more concerned about the way back. With 60,000 visitors leaving at the same time, we'll probably leave a bit earlier to avoid the worst.

We'll let things come to us and react appropriately. We won't come too early and won't be standing too close. We'll look for a cozy corner where we can exchange friendship bracelets. I want Luisa to have a nice experience at her first concert. It should be an experience for both of us.

Taylor Swift runs in the kindergarten

My most beautiful Swift moment was actually the entire period since we received the tickets for the Eras Tour. The whole planning process. It was really a Mama-Daughter thing, as we did it together. It's something that only binds us. We thought about what we would wear, which arm bands we would make, and which hairstyles we would do. Taylor Swift has been running in the kindergarten for a few weeks now. We're looking forward to Sunday.

For me, there's no other artist who brings the same energy right now. It's just a happy world. Everyone can come as they are, wear what they want, and be themselves for three and a half hours, completely letting go of their heads. I wouldn't call myself an extreme Swiftie, but you can tell that Taylor values her fans, even as individuals.

My favorite album is Reputation, but there's a song I really wish for as a Surprise Song. If they sang Never Grow Up, that would be the absolute surprise for me. For me, as a mom sharing this "once in a lifetime" experience with my daughter, would be very emotional and the song would reflect that feeling. I'm anyway built near water and I'll be an emotional wreck on Sundays.

  1. Luisa's bedroom is often filled with Headlines about Taylor Swift's latest News in the Entertainment section. Her mother has instilled a love for Swift's music in her from a young age.
  2. On the day of the concert, Luisa wore a pink crop top covered with glitter stones, inspired by Taylor Swift's iconic Lover outfit, making her feel like a mini-version of her idol.
  3. As they waited for the concert to start, Luisa and her mother exchanged friendship bracelets, both excited to share this once-in-a-lifetime Moment with Taylor Swift, singing along to their favorite songs, including Luisa's favorite, "Anti-Hero."
