Tuchel provides insights into secret meeting with Schweinsteiger
TV pundits are not Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel's favorite pastime. But he did meet one recently. However, it had nothing to do with his TV work. For a long time now, the two protagonists of a paparazzi photo have been busy exchanging ideas.
Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel doesn't appreciate all TV pundits, but Munich soccer legend Bastian Schweinsteiger does all the more. "It was always nice to talk to Basti when I was still coach at Mainz and he was a player at Bayern. We always found five or ten minutes. It was always funny, because he's a rascal and has a sense of humor," said Tuchel on Friday ahead of FC Bayern's Bundesliga match at Eintracht Frankfurt (Saturday, 3.30 pm/Sky and live ticker on ntv.de). Tuchel recently had dinner with the 2014 world champion.
Bild published a photo showing Tuchel and Schweinsteiger in a posh Munich hotel bar. They had met by chance during the international break and then the opportunity arose for a meeting. "A dinner and a drink. It's just fun, it's very friendly, it has nothing to do with his work as a TV pundit," said Tuchel. In addition, Schweinsteiger is the pundit for the DFB Cup and unfortunately FC Bayern is no longer involved, he added with reference to the article.
The 39-year-old Schweinsteiger was a youth player and professional for FC Bayern from 1998 to 2015, winning practically every title - the highlight being the treble in 2013. "I really appreciate Basti. He gives me the impression that he is very happy with his current life, very at peace with himself. That's why it's a great pleasure to talk to him," said the 50-year-old Tuchel. Tuchel did not reveal much about the content of the meeting, only surprising with one detail: "It's extremely little about FC Bayern."
Bayern can take the lead in the table
In recent weeks, Tuchel had repeatedly caused a stir with his small and large battles with the nation's chief critics - Didi Hamann and Lothar Matthäus. During the record champions' triumph at Dortmund's Westfalenstadion, the dispute escalated to such an extent that it even drove the champion coach out of the interview after the 4-0 win over his old employers. The victory had given Bayern a boost in the fight for the championship title. Not for Dortmund.
With a win in Frankfurt on Saturday, Bayern would now take over at the top of the table again, at least for one night. Bayer Leverkusen can then overtake them again on Sunday (3.30 pm/DAZN and live ticker on ntv.de) with a win at VfB Stuttgart. Jamal Musiala is back in the Munich squad following his muscle injury.

Tuchel and Schweinsteiger, despite their different roles in soccer with Tuchel as Bayern's coach and Schweinsteiger as a DFB Cup pundit, shared a friendly dinner recently, away from their professional commitments. Despite not discussing much about Bayern during their meeting, Tuchel expressed his deep appreciation for Schweinsteiger's contentment and peace of mind.
Following their meeting, Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel is eager to guide his team, FC Bayern Munich, to a win against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, which could potentially put them at the top of the Bundesliga table for a night, ahead of Bayer Leverkusen's game on Sunday.
