Tuchel beaming next to Hoeneß: FCB wants to "write history"

Thomas Tuchel hugged club patron Uli Hoeneß and then took a seat in the front row at FC Bayern's annual general meeting. At the side of honorary president Hoeneß, the coach was also able to take a look at the rather meagre trophy collection on the stage on Sunday in Munich at his premiere at the members' convention after FC Bayern's last single season.

This season, in which titles in the league and Champions League are still possible after the depressing cup exit, Hoeneß and Tuchel would like to see a little more for record-breaking Harry Kane and Co. "The feeling of waking up the next morning after a win can't be topped," said Tuchel, who came into the arena as league leaders after the somewhat wild 4:2 (2:0) win against 1. FC Heidenheim. "A good moment for the annual general meeting," remarked the 50-year-old.

President Herbert Hainer saw the victory as an "exclamation mark". "Our goal for 2024 is clear: the twelfth German championship in a row," said Hainer. "Let's continue to write history together." The Supervisory Board Chairman had words of praise for Tuchel: it was right that he had countered the experts after criticism. The 316,000 fans in attendance acknowledged this with applause.

He scores and scores - Harry Kane "is fun for everyone"

As Kane and his colleagues traveled to their national teams, the injured Jamal Musiala and Matthijs de Ligt as well as returnee Raphael Guerreiro sat in the front row on Sunday morning alongside the coach from the Munich luxury squad. As was sporting director Christoph Freund. Captain Manuel Neuer was not present.

It's hard to imagine how big the cheers of the members would have been if goal machine Kane had triumphantly entered the Rudi-Sedlmayer-Halle on Sunday morning. The 30-year-old's goals, which were shown on the video screen, were met with huge applause.

The record purchase is fun for everyone. Hoeneß also applauded after the next goals scored by England's national team captain. Bayern paid over 100 million euros for his services. Money that Hoeneß would never have taken from his legendary fixed deposit account for a player years ago. The Kane purchase is not yet included in the good figures presented at the meeting. The record turnover for the past financial year is 882 million euros. "With key figures like that, the future can come," said Hainer jubilantly.

Kane is paying back his transfer fee goal for goal. The 30-year-old has a dizzying rate and, with 17 goals this season in the Bundesliga, has already scored more times than last season's top scorers. The most expensive purchase in Bayern's history has scored 21 goals this season after 16 competitive matches.

Extrapolated, the 41-goal record of former world footballer Robert Lewandowski is easily within reach in the Bundesliga. "That's still a bit far away," Kane played down before happily leaving the arena catacombs with his wife Katie Goodland. "There's still a long way to go. I've started strong and people like to talk about that record," said the 30-year-old. "There are still a lot of games to play and I'm not focused on that. I want to get the three points and help my team by scoring goals."

Bayern beat Heidenheim and set their sights on Leverkusen

After just a few games together, goalkeeper Neuer is just as enthusiastic about England's goalscorer as he is about Lewandowski. "Both are very hungry for goals and unpredictable in the box," said Neuer, who loudly went on to analyze his mistakes after conceding goals. "Both can do almost everything. And it's difficult to calculate for the defense - and for the goalkeepers too."

After scoring three goals against Darmstadt and Dortmund as well as two goals in the early group win in the Champions League against Galatasaray Istanbul, Kane also struck several times against the up-and-coming team with its strong tackling. Tim Kleindienst and Jan-Niklas Beste gave Heidenheim a brilliant comeback. But comeback man Guerreiro, who is now trying to find his feet in the Munich team after muscle injuries, and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting made everything clear.

In the long-distance duel with Bayer Leverkusen for first place, Munich already have a five-point lead over their closest rivals. "The gap to third place is a little bigger. But you only become champions if you're first. That's why we're looking at first place," said Thomas Müller. Tuchel doesn't want to make any calculations after the win "on the last groove". "For me, there's only one fight, because we're only fighting against ourselves."

  1. In the Bundesliga, FC Bayern Munich aims to maintain their dominance with their new signing Harry Kane, as they currently lead the league and aim to defend their title for the 12th consecutive year. This was discussed during the annual general meeting, where club president Herbert Hainer emphasized the importance of continuing to "write history" together.
  2. FC Bayern Munich's 1st FC Heidenheim match was crucial for their Bundesliga journey, with Harry Kane scoring multiple times to secure a win and extend their lead over Leverkusen. This performance highlighted Kane's importance to the team and their ongoing quest to outperform their competitors such as Heidenheim and Leverkusen.
