Tragic Olympic-Exit for DFB-Star Oberdorf

**After the injury in the EM-Qualifier match against Austria, the DFB has confirmed the worst fears: Lena Oberdorf (22) sustained a cruciate and ligament tear in her right knee and will miss the Olympic Games in France (25. July to 10. August) for Germany's women's football team. The midfield star injured herself during the successful Olympic test match against Austria (4:0) on Tuesday in Hannover.

The worst fears have been confirmed: Defensive midfielder Lena Oberdorf has sustained a cruciate and ligament injury in her right knee and will miss Germany's women's football team at the Olympic Games in France (25. July to 10. August). She sustained the injury during the successful Olympic test match against Austria (4:0) on Tuesday in Hannover.

"This news hurts! Our worst fear has come true. We are all thinking about Obi and feeling with her," said national coach Horst Hrubesch in a statement after Oberdorf's MRT examination at her new club Bayern Munich: "We will certainly pull all our forces together for the Olympics. We will also play for the medal for Obi."

Oberdorf sustained the injury during a tackle against Austria's Barbara Dunst and had to be substituted with the help of two trainers. "She was screaming in pain. She thought she had heard something snap," Kathrin Hendrich had said after the victory over Austria.

Oberdorf's replacement in the squad could be Janina Minge. The 25-year-old has been the backup for Oberdorf at VfL Wolfsburg and impressed in the starting lineup against Austria on Tuesday in Hannover. Alongside Minge, Stina Johannes, Nicole Anyomi (both Frankfurt), and Felicitas Rauch (North Carolina Courage) are listed as Olympic reserves. "The nomination will be announced in the coming days," the DFB announced.**

Oberdorf's injury occurred during a match against Austria, specifically during a tackle with Barbara Dunst. Despite the unfortunate incident, Germany's women's football team will still participate in the Olympic Games in France, with Janina Minge being a potential replacement for Oberdorf in the squad. The DFB has announced that the nomination for the reserves will be made public in the near future.
