After the tragic death of long-time team caretaker Peter Miethe, 1. FC Kaiserslautern has cancelled their pre-season training camp in Mals, South Tyrol. According to the club's statement, the 62-year-old passed away on a Wednesday evening during training camp due to an accident. "The FCK is in shock. Our hearts are broken," the club shared on social media.

Miethe had been active with the Palatinate team for over 20 years and was responsible for many aspects concerning the team. "We mourn together with his family & friends for an extraordinary person," wrote the Pokal finalist of the previous season. At the same time, the club asked for "respect for the relatives in regards to further inquiries."
The team, led by new coach Markus Anfang, was scheduled to travel home to Kaiserslautern that day. The upcoming test match against Swiss first division team FC St. Gallen, planned for the following Sunday, is likely to be cancelled.
Several clubs and the German Football League expressed their condolences on social media. "Our sympathy goes out to his dependents, friends, and the entire FCK family," wrote the DFL on X (formerly Twitter).
