Toni Kroos is apparently really thinking about returning to the DFB
After a disastrous end to the year with the national team, national coach Julian Nagelsmann is putting everything to the test and looking around for personnel alternatives. Toni Kroos has been a hot name since this weekend - and rightly so?
Former world champion Toni Kroos can apparently imagine a comeback for the German national soccer team. This is reported by the "Bild" newspaper. The Real Madrid midfield star had originally ended his career in the DFB team in 2021 after 106 international matches following the round of 16 exit at the European Championship. The 33-year-old has been one of Real's top performers since 2014. He won the Champions League four times with the Whites, having also triumphed in the top flight with Bayern in 2013.
Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann recently described a return as an "interesting thought" in the ZDF sports studio and added: "You have to think about all players who have a German passport, I think that's my job." After the disastrous end to the year with the defeats against Turkey and Austria, he is now putting everything to the test and looking for personnel alternatives - like Kroos? Nagelsmann revealed that he had not yet spoken to the 2014 world champion about this. "I talk to him a lot about soccer, including about the home European Championship."
"If Toni plays, then with his pulse at 20"
Antonio Rüdiger got the debate rolling. The international recently said that he would like to see his colleague return. "A player like him, who is still at such a high level, should actually be there. I ask him every day," Rüdiger reported and enthused: "When Toni plays, his pulse is at 20 and his passing is like something else - everything is top."
Kroos confirmed the talks with the DFB defensive boss. His reaction? "I had to think for a long time, he caught me on the wrong foot because I didn't have that thought myself, it only came through him." And yes, it did get him thinking. He didn't want to reveal what he said to Rüdiger. Kroos is experienced like no other, has achieved everything, experienced everything. He can give stability to an insecure team, his class is beyond any doubt even at almost 34.
However, a comeback by the next Rio hero after Thomas Müller, Mats Hummels and, in March, Manuel Neuer would further shake up the fragile hierarchy. The fact that Kroos does not harmonize perfectly with captain Ilkay Gündogan in midfield was shown not least at the 2021 European Championships, and it is doubtful that he will fit in with Nagelsmann's new "worker" approach.

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann is considering reaching out to Toni Kroos following his impressive performances at Real Madrid. If Kroos were to return to the DFB, he could provide stability to an insecure team, with his outstanding class and ability to pass the ball flawlessly, as noted by his teammate Antonio Rüdiger.
