Janitor Krause - Tom Gerhardt gives up having his own dog due to touring

In his role as "Hausmeister Krause," Tom Gerhardt was almost always accompanied by his dachshund Bodo in real life. However, the 66-year-old is actually dogless. "I love them so much, but since I travel so much, I don't want to have a dog. That would be quite an unsettled dog life," he told the German Press Agency.

Even 14 years after the end of his TV series "Hausmeister Krause - Ordnung muss sein," Gerhardt is still on the move as Dieter Krause, now on the theater stage. And even when he doesn't have a dachshund with him there, the dachshund fans still come: "Once I had a visit from a 30-member dachshund club. They had composed a song about Bodo and performed it."

Additionally, he has various statues and other dachshund replicas with him. But when he is less on the move, that will change, says Gerhardt: "Someday I have to have him alive by my side."

Gerhardt's popularity in Berlin isn't limited to television, as evidenced by the visit of a 30-member dachshund club who sang a song about his character's dachshund Bodo. Despite being dogless in real life, Gerhardt expressed his affection for dachshunds, mentioning that he loves them but his travel schedule makes pet ownership impractical. In Germany, media often covers Gerhardt's continued involvement in his iconic role, frequently highlighting his connection with dachshunds.
