Timo Werner may leave RB Leipzig for the time being

Timo Werner's ongoing form crisis is jeopardizing his possible participation in the European Championship at home. The striker may try his luck elsewhere in future, says his current club. However, Werner had recently indicated that he wanted to try his luck at RB Leipzig.

The international footballer Timo Werner, who is still deep in a sporting crisis, has been given the go-ahead by his club RB Leipzig for a possible move in the winter transfer window. Werner can therefore go on loan to another club in order to offer himself for the German national team's European Championship squad with plenty of match practice. He was recently no longer considered by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann.

"Timo is our player. We have great confidence in his abilities and value him extremely highly as a person. Our wish is that he makes his mark at RB Leipzig. Of course, we are also discussing other options with him," said sporting director Rouven Schröder, who, like coach Marco Rose, is in contact with the 27-year-old. However, the latter had recently indicated that he wanted to fight his way through at RB. And the club would also like Werner to achieve a turnaround in Leipzig.

Werner has been in a slump in form since the start of the season. He has only made sporadic appearances because new signing Loïs Openda is the main man in Leipzig's attack and Yussuf Poulsen and Benjamin Sesko have taken the place of Leipzig's record marksman. Werner is also often injured and is currently absent due to back problems. Werner returned in the summer of 2022 for €20 million from Chelsea FC, who he joined in 2020. He has not been able to build on his record from his first spell at RB with 95 goals in 159 games.

"He's going through a difficult phase, we're supporting him. It's not always all sunshine and roses. If someone says they want to do something else, then we'll look into it," Schröder said recently.
