Timo Boll concludes his remarkable career in part.

The year 2000 marks the first time Timo Boll took part in the Olympics, and in 2024, he'll make his final appearance in Paris. This summer, the 43-year-old intends to part ways with the national team, but he plans to play for his club for an additional year before retiring. After the Olympics, Boll's career will come to a close.

Boll has been candid about his apprehensions surrounding this decision but acknowledged that it was inevitable. As the record European champion and the face of German table tennis, he told reporters about his upcoming retirement, "I've been open about my anxiety regarding this decision in the past, but it was clear this day would eventually arrive."

After the Olympics, he will dedicate another year to playing table tennis for his club, then bid adieu to the sport. Roßkopf, the national coach, nominated Boll for the team event, nominating Franziska as the backup. This decision didn't sit well with everyone.

Despite recovering from shoulder issues that kept him out of play for a prolonged period, Boll expressed gratitude for his career. Among his many accomplishments are two World Championship bronze medals and eight European Championship gold medals. "It's been an honor to participate in an activity that's changed my life so significantly," remarked Boll, a native of Erbach. However, he believes it's time to move on, "now it's time for me to step away from the global stage of active sports."

Boll will continue to play for Borussia Düsseldorf for another season before taking on other support roles for the club. "My attachment to the sport is unwavering," he explained. "I have several dreams and aspirations." Boll, who's been playing for Düsseldorf since joining from TTV Gönnern in 2006, is set to play in the WTT Champions in China beginning Thursday. The team is on the cusp of winning the German Championship, with a showdown against 1. FC Saarbrücken, involving Franziska, to determine the victor. With the Olympics right around the corner, Boll's focus remains solely on claiming a medal with the team as his final goal.

Having won two silvers and two bronzes with the team at the Olympics, Boll aspires to leave the sports world on a high note, "If we win a medal with the team at the Olympics, that would be the perfect culmination." Boll's preparation for the contest has been in full swing for some time. He shared his sentiments on Instagram, "I was aware that my time would soon run out. I owe you all for your unwavering support throughout my journey! I'm relishing every moment of my last adventures."
