Tiger Woods confirms completion of successful back operation
A 48-year-old individual shared on platform X, previously known as Twitter, that they had undergone a microdecompression procedure on their lumbar spine due to nerve compression in the lower back.
"The operation went flawlessly, and I'm optimistic that it'll aid in reducing the back spasms and pain I've been grappling with throughout the majority of the 2024 season," the person stated. "I can't wait to delve into this rehabilitation and prepare myself to rejoin normal daily activities, including golf."
During this season, the 15-time major champion participated in all four major tournaments for the first time since their 2021 car accident, which resulted in severe leg injuries that made completing a 72-hole tournament over four days challenging. Regrettably, they failed to make the cut in the final three attempts at the sport's premier events.
Dr. Sheeraz Qureshi, working at the Hospital of Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida, carried out the operation, and "declared it a success," the statement mentioned. It represented the American golfer's sixth back operation throughout their career and their first since 2021.
Just prior to the Open Championship in July, the 82-time PGA Tour champion expressed their determination to carry on competing as long as they believed they could still obtain victories, despite pressure for retirement – even from former world No. 2 Colin Montgomerie.
After the successful surgery, the golfer expressed their eagerness to return to the green, stating, "I can't wait to delve into this rehabilitation and prepare myself to rejoin normal daily activities, including golf." Despite facing challenges in major tournaments this season, the passion for the sport remains unwavering, as they mentioned, "I can't wait to compete again and continue my journey in this wonderful sport of golf."
