goif - Tiger Woods before British Open: No thought of retirement

Tiger Woods thinks despite lacking success he will not retire from Golf. "I will keep playing as long as I can and I have the feeling that I can still win this tournament", said the now 48-year-old superstar from California at a press conference before the 152nd British Open at Royal Troon in Scotland. The 15-time Major winner countered a suggestion from Scottish Golf legend Colin Montgomerie (61), who had advised Woods to retire from golf.

Woods' last tournament win is almost five years old. In October 2019, the longtime number one in the world won the ZOZO Championship in Japan. After numerous surgeries and the severe car accident in February 2021, where he fractured his right leg multiple times, he only participates in select tournaments.

For the British Open, which starts this Thursday at Royal Troon Golf Club on the Scottish west coast, Woods feels well prepared. "I have trained much better. We have worked hard in the fitness studio, which was good", he said. His body is in good shape and that translates to his golf game.

  1. Despite suggestions of retirement, Tiger Woods, with a win at the ZOZO Championship in 2019 being his last victory, remains determined to continue his participation in the DP World Tour and PGA-Tour, citing his passion for the Golf sport.
  2. The prospect of Tiger Woods' resignation from golf was dismissed by him at a press conference ahead of the British Open in Scotland, expressing his confidence in his ability to win tournaments despite his recent lack of success.
  3. The British Open, a prestigious event in the Golf sport's calendar held in Scotland, saw Tiger Woods expressing his readiness for the tournament, attributing his improved form to rigorous fitness training and hard work in the gym.
  4. Tiger Woods' participation in the British Open, held at Royal Troon Golf Club in California, has drawn attention due to his long-time absence in the Golf sport, but his positive attitude and improved fitness prospects raise hopes of a strong performance.
  5. Despite advising Tiger Woods to retire from golf given his recent struggles, Scottish Golf legend Colin Montgomerie's suggestion was met with refusal, as the golf champ remains committed to making an impact in international Golf events like the British Open and other renowned tours.
