Golf - Tiger Woods 18th in comeback in the Caribbean

Golf idol Tiger Woods finished his comeback in the Bahamas in 18th place after an eight-month injury break.

However, the 47-year-old Californian needed 20 strokes more than the winner Scottie Scheffler (268) at his own tournament at Albany Golf Club with a total score of 288. The world number one from the USA won ahead of Austria's Ryder Cup player Sepp Straka (271) and the US American Justin Thomas (272). 20 top golfers from the PGA Tour took part in Woods' invitational tournament in the Caribbean.

Woods "still a little rusty"

More important for Woods than the result, however, is the realization that his body and his right foot, which had undergone surgery, survived the four strenuous days well. The tournament was the first competition for the long-time world number one following his withdrawal from the Masters in Augusta in April due to injury and subsequent foot surgery.

"I'm still a bit rusty," said Woods, who, as always, played the final round in a red shirt and black trousers. "But it was a lot of fun competing with the guys here again." Woods' plan is to play one tournament a month next year. This will give him enough time to recover between tournaments, he explained. In just under two weeks' time, Woods will first compete together with his now 14-year-old son Charlie at the PGA Tour family tournament in Orlando/Florida.

Tiger Woods' comeback in the Bahamas was part of the International PGA Tour, which attracted 20 top golfers from around the world, including the USA and Austria. The Albany Golf Club in the Bahamas' Nassau played host to this prestigious event. Despite finishing 18th after an eight-month injury break, Woods was pleased with his performance and the health of his foot, which had undergone surgery. Looking forward to his future, Woods plans to play one tournament a month to ensure adequate recovery time between competitions. His daughter, Sam, joined him for the final round, wearing a red shirt and black pants, just like her father. In the next few weeks, Woods and his 14-year-old son, Charlie, will compete together at the PGA Tour family tournament in Orlando, Florida.
