Thomas Rice is experiencing discomfort, observing the pot from a distance.
Thomas Reis has had quite an experience in the Ruhr area, with FC Schalke and VfL Bochum providing him with numerous adventures, not all of which had a happy ending. Despite the challenges, his loyalty lies with the Ruhr region's clubs, even though they're currently struggling. On the other hand, Reis is thriving in Turkey.
Despite his success in Turkey, the turbulent seasons of Schalke and the rough start for Bochum still affect him. He stated, "I still keep track of Schalke and Bochum's matches when my playing and training schedule allows it." However, the struggles of his former clubs provide no escape in his daily routine.
Reis expressed his disappointment about Schalke's season, stating, "It's sad to see that Schalke's season started once again with turmoil and a coaching change." He wished the club and its fans "all the best" and hoped they could find "stability and consistency in the important coaching position."
Bochum, too, started off rough, but Reis believed they would "definitely manage to stay in the league" with their "always familiar ability to pull through." Reis played a role in Bochum's survival during the 2021/2022 season, securing a win against Borussia Dortmund's Haaland in the Westfalenstadion.
Samsun as a Foreign Coaching Destination
Reis is also facing challenges in Turkey with Samsunspor, but his unexpectedly strong start, with four wins out of six league matches, keeps him focused on their goal: staying in the league. Despite their success, he insisted, "We still focus on our goal of staying in the league, without getting complacent."
Reis found Samsun to be an unexpectedly welcoming place for his first foreign coaching job, even with the transfer ban. He settled well, stating, "I'm having a great time here. The sea is almost right outside my door, making living here very enjoyable." The locals were friendly and helpful, and the weather was good, he added.
Reis emphasized his commitment to his current role in Turkey, but added, "Germany remains interesting for the future. I'll definitely keep an eye on Schalke and Bochum."
Thomas Rice, or Thomas Reis as he's known in football circles, often reflects on his turbulent tenures with Schalke and Bochum, even from his current coaching position in Turkey. Despite the triumphs in his new role with Samsunspor, he continues to follow the fortunes of both German clubs, expressing his hope for Schalke's stability and Bochum's league survival.
