Right now, there's a plethora of new shows and films available for streaming. Let's dive into what's currently offered.

"Star Wars: The Acolyte" on Disney+

Beginning on June 5th, Lucasfilm released the first two episodes of the new series "Star Wars: The Acolyte". This series later continued with six remaining episodes, each released weekly until mid-July. The story revolves around a Jedi Master named Lee Jung-jae, who is heavily involved in investigating a crime series. Along the way, he encounters a dangerous warrior from his past, played by Amandla Stenberg. It's notable that this production is more female-focused than prior Star Wars projects. In the show, Carrie-Anne Moss portrays another Jedi Master named Indara. "Star Wars: The Acolyte" is set about 200 years before the film "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace," which debuted in 1999. The creator of the series is Leslye Headland.

"Reality Queens - Through the Jungle in High Heels" on RTL+

This reality show, also known as "Reality Queens - Through the Jungle in High Heels," has been available to stream on RTL since June 6th. The series features twelve female celebrities who are sent to the jungle of Suriname and compete in various games for the trash TV format. The participants include Jasmin Herren, Emmy Russ, Ricarda Raatz, Patricia Blanco, Sandra Sicora, Carina Spack, and mother-daughter duo Danni Büchner and Joelina. The entertaining host of the show is Filip Pavlović, who won the 15th season of "Ich bin ein Star - Holt mich hier raus" in 2022. The series has nine episodes, with one released per week.

"The Invitation - Until Death Do Us Part" on Netflix

The horror thriller has a unique blend of vampire mythology and modern themes related to social classes and gender stereotypes. Nathalie Emmanuel stars as Evie, a young woman from New York who discovers a new family connected to the British upper class and attends their elegant wedding at an English country estate. What initially seems like a dream soon transforms into a dreadful experience. The film, released in 2022, is now available on Netflix.

"Little Women", now on Arte

The British miniseries "Little Women", created by Heidi Thomas, has been added to Arte's streaming service. It originally aired on BBC One in 2017. The adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's classic novel tells the story of the March sisters Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy during the American Civil War. The cast includes Maya Hawke, Kathryn Newton, and Emily Watson. In the BBC version, Jo is portrayed by Maya Hawke, daughter of actors Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman. Notable appearances also include Angela Lansbury as the funny yet embittered aunt.

A Cause for Controversy: "Die Hamburger Schule - Musikszene zwischen Pop und Politik" in the ARD Mediathek

A documentary, "Die Hamburger Schule - Musikszene zwischen Pop und Politik", has generated a lot of buzz in the ARD Mediathek since the end of May. This documentary highlights German-language texts, guitar rock with social criticism, and a distinct coolness that defines the Hamburg School. This includes bands like Blumfeld, Tocotronic, Die Sterne, Die Braut haut ins Auge, and the Goldenen Zitronen. The Hamburg School is considered a highly influential music scene that paved the way for many successful German-speaking indie bands. However, some members have expressed discontent with the documentary, particularly singer and guitarist Bernd Begemann, who deemed it an "ignorant ego-trip," infamous, and "labeling nonsense." This has sparked curiosity and prompted more viewers to check it out.
