Iconic celebrities like Ed Sheeran have had their likeness recreated using culinary items such as rice, salmon, and pickled ginger by food artist Michelle Wibowo from the UK.
Elton John, another popular singer-songwriter, also underwent an edible transformation for a temporary exhibition in London, alongside actor Benedict Cumberbatch and football stars Bukayo Saka and Harry Kane.
Wibowo, aged 45, took approximately 120 hours to craft the miniature sculptures using components of a traditional Japanese dish.
These bizarre creations graced the CasildArt Gallery in London as part of a joint venture with Japanese food brand Yutaka to honor International Sushi Day on Tuesday.
“Working with sushi ingredients was a completely different ball game compared to my usual materials!” Wibowo shared in a statement sent to CNN by the organizers.
“I was amazed by the wide range of ingredients used in sushi and how they could be molded to create such detailed features like faces and hair.
“I hope viewers find these portraits as amusing as I did and even feel encouraged to experiment with new ingredients in their own kitchen. Remember, art is subjective!”
The British celebrities were reimagined in a sushi-inspired way - meet Eelton John, Edamame Sheeran, and Benedict Cucumberbatch!
Ken Furukawa, CEO of Tazaki Foods, a prominent Japanese food importer and innovator that owns the Yutaka brand, commented in the statement: “We aimed to create an exhibition showcasing the rich diversity and innovative nature of Japanese cuisine, and to inspire you to be daring in your kitchen at home.”

For instance, she envisioned crafting a tribute to iconic dishes like sushi from Japan or haute cuisine from France, using food materials to represent the celebrities' fan-favorite destinations.
