Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett - They show their "non-official" monogram
Before their summer wedding on August 31, Princess Martha Louise of Norway (52) and her partner Durek Verrett (49) revealed their own monogram on Instagram. The symbol, which has various meanings, "speaks to us in the deepest part of us, it represents us and our love," they wrote.
The emblem was designed by the two "in honor of our former shared life in Egypt" with Egyptian hieroglyphs. The M stands for "the wise owl, a guardian of souls," and D is a symbol for "gracefully executed actions, opening doors, and dancing through life."
Besides their initials, there are also horses, a heart, an infinity symbol, and a diamond embedded in the monogram. "Horses were a central animal in both our lives. We honor their sensitivity, their strength, and their majestic powers," the couple explained. The heart symbolizes their "unconditional love," the infinity symbol stands for their "eternal connection," and the diamond "represents the portal between the physical and the metaphysical world."
No official monogram
Martha Louise also revealed that this is not an official monogram, "since I no longer represent the royal family at official events." It is "merely a beautiful emblem with important symbolism" for the bride and groom.
Martha Louise is the elder sister of Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon (50) and the daughter of King Harald V. (87) and Queen Sonja (86). She was married to author Ari Behn (1972-2019) from 2002 to 2017, and they have three daughters (born in 2003, 2005, and 2008). Since 2018, she has been officially with the American Durek Verrett (who works as a "shaman"), and they have been engaged since 2022. Their wedding takes place on August 31 in the western Norwegian town of Geiranger.
Royal retreat in 2022
In November 2022, Martha Louise announced that she would no longer take on official duties for the Norwegian Royal House in the future. King Harald allowed her to keep her Princess title. The court stated as the reason for the retreat that Martha Louise and Durek Verrett want to clearly separate their business activities from their role at the court.
