New ranking - These airports are the best in the world

Punctuality, customer ratings, selection and quality at Airports and Shops: Based on these criteria, the Berlin passenger rights portal AirHelp has created a Ranking of the best Airports in the World. Japan can place five Airports in the Top 20, but the crown goes to another country. Germany's busiest Airport, in international comparison, receives a very poor rating. For the Ranking, data from May 1, 2023 to April 30, 2024 were compared.

The Best Airport in the World

Therefore, the best Airport in the World is the Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar. The Airport offers numerous Shops and Restaurants, a tropical garden, art installations and prayer rooms. The Ranking particularly highlights the shopping and dining options. With an overall score of 8.52, the Airport leads the comparison.

In second place is the Cape Town Airport in South Africa, which with an overall rating of 8.50 narrowly missed the Gold. According to the survey, the Airport stands out particularly in terms of Punctuality. The Airport in Cape Town, the Brasilia Airport (5th place), and the Panama-Tocumen Airport (12th place) are the punctualest in the world with a rating of 8.6 in this category.

Japan can particularly distinguish itself in the ranking of the best Airports in the World. In third place in the international comparison is the Nagoya-Chubu Airport, which particularly excels in customer ratings and with an 8.49 rating is only 0.01 points behind the second place. Close behind is the Osaka-Itami Airport (8.46, 4th place). Among the Top 20, the Airports of Tokyo-Narita (8.24, 10th place), Nagasaki (8.20, 13th place), and New Chitose (8.11, 20th place) also rank.

Frankfurt performs poorly

For Germany's largest Airport, the ranking does not end well. The Frankfurt Airport receives an overall rating of 6.99 and ranks 222nd out of 239. The best German Airport is therefore the Dortmund Airport with a score of 8.02 on place 32. Stuttgart follows on place 63 with a score of 7.83, Duesseldorf with 7.77 on rank 76, Hamburg with 7.59 on place 118 and the Cologne/Bonn Airport with 7.57 on rank 125. The Bavarian Airports position themselves in the lower half of the list. Munich receives place 161 with a rating of 7.37, Nuremberg place 202 with 7.15. The Memmingen Airport was not listed.

The worst Airport in the comparison is the Tunis-Carthage Airport in Tunisia on rank 239. In the overall ranking, the last place is a 5.35. Noteworthy is especially a 4.8 in terms of Punctuality - the lowest score in the list. The Vorletzte Platz belegt der Flughafen Heraklion mit 6.51 Punkten und vorher der Flughafen London Gatwick. This Airport shares a rating of 6.53 with the 236th place, the Nikola Tesla Airport in the Serbian capital Belgrade.

  1. Many travelers have left positive customer reviews about the shopping and dining options at the Hamad International Airport in Doha, contributing to its impressive new ranking as the best Airport in the World.
  2. The Cape Town Airport in South Africa, ranked second in the world, has received high praise for its punctuality, placing it among the most reliable Airports globally according to the survey.
  3. Despite Germany's Frankfurt Airport ranking poorly at 222nd out of 239 Airports worldwide, Catherine from Germany shared her positive experience at the less crowded and more efficiently-run Dortmund Airport, which ranked 32nd.
  4. As Japan secured three spots in the Top 10 of the best Airports in the World, visitors to Doha's Hamad International Airport or Cape Town's Airport have an alternative to look forward to, such as the New Chitose Airport in Japan, which ranks 20th.
  5. During a recent trip from South Africa to Germany, a passenger noted the significant difference in their experiences at the two countries' Airports, with Cape Town's punctual performances and South Africa's high rankings contrasting sharply with Germany's less impressive scores and lower rankings.
