- There's another Banksy picture!
A stone goat, elephant, monkey, and finally a howling wolf: For several days in a row, new works by the British street artist Banksy appeared, sprayed at various locations in the British capital.
But the joy was short-lived with the latest work. Shortly after the mysterious artist confirmed his authorship by publishing an image on Instagram, the artwork sprayed onto a satellite dish was removed by unknown individuals.
The Metropolitan Police told the news agency DPA that they had been contacted about the theft of a satellite dish with a work of art on it. So far, there have been no arrests, and the investigation is ongoing.
Masked individuals gained access with a ladder
The satellite dish with the wolf silhouette stood on the roof of a boarded-up single-story shop in Peckham, in southeast London.
In pictures and videos from British media, several masked individuals can be seen gaining access to the roof with a ladder, removing the satellite dish, and taking it away.
Banksy artworks are worth millions
Banksy is one of the world's most famous street art artists - his works fetch millions at auctions. He keeps his identity secret, but it is known that he comes from the west English city of Bristol.
His works, which he usually verifies via Instagram post, appear at irregular intervals in Britain and other countries, often sprayed onto buildings.
Last December, one of his works - also in Peckham - was removed shortly after its confirmation. It was a stop sign with several military drones sprayed onto it. Even then, it was removed in broad daylight under the eyes of passersby by a man with bolt cutters.
The latest Banksy works featuring animals in different parts of London caused a stir and sparked speculation about what the artist wants to express with them.
Despite the ongoing investigation by the Metropolitan Police, the satellite dish with the Banksy wolf silhouette has yet to be recovered. Due to Banksy's fame and the high value of his artworks, which can fetch millions at auctions, there's speculation that the thieves may attempt to sell the stolen piece.
