Movie theater - The Tribeca Festival begins in New York.
The 23rd edition of the Tribeca Festival in New York City is set to kick off in the coming days, featuring documentaries on fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg and the late DJ Avicii, as well as other German contributions and a mini-festival for co-founder Robert De Niro. The event, which runs from Wednesday through June 16th, will offer a variety of activities including screenings, discussions, music concerts, and video game previews. Organizers expect to draw tens of thousands of visitors and many celebrities.
Following the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, De Niro and producer Jane Rosenthal started the Tribeca Festival as a way to revive the area's spirit. This year, De Niro will receive his own mini-festival within Tribeca, running from April 14th to 16th. "De Niro Con" will feature talks, film screenings, and exhibits.
The opening film is the documentary "Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge," and other noteworthy docs, like "Avicii — I'm Tim" chronicling the life of the Swedish DJ and "Linda Perry: Let It Die Here" spotlighting the musician Linda Perry, are also in the lineup. Films with German connections, like "Treasure" by Julia von Heinz featuring Lena Dunham and the ARD series "Black Swans" make the cut, as well as the film "Era Oculta" and the animated cartoon "Scrubby."
