The top restaurant globally for 2024 is unveiled.

Six eateries from a European country secured spots on the list, with three of them ranking in the top five. These accolades, referred to as the Oscars of global fine dining, were presented at an event held at the Wynn in Las Vegas on a Wednesday evening. Disfrutar from Barcelona, owned by Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch, and Mateu Casanas, won the top honors. Their background working at famous restaurant El Bulli hints at their talent for creating innovative and enjoyable dishes that showcase technical prowess, like a caviar-filled Panchino doughnut, a frozen gazpacho sandwich, and squab served with kombu spaghetti, almond, and grape.

Coming in second was Asador Etxebarri of Atxondo, close to Bilbao, Spain. This eatery under the direction of Chef Victor Arguinzoniz is renowned for its unparalleled barbecue that allows the quality of the ingredients to shine, highlighted by a grilled red Palamós prawn.

Paris refused to lose, with Table by Bruno Verjus seizing the third position. Another Spanish restaurant, Diverxo from Madrid, followed closely behind in fourth place.

Fifth place went to Lima's Maido, one of three eateries from the city on the list. This helps cement Lima's status as South America's leading dining destination. Mexico City's Quintonil claimed the seventh spot, signifying Mexico's triumph in North America with three restaurants on the list.

With six restaurants on the list, Spain took home the most wins for the night. Paris and Bangkok tied, both possessing four restaurants each. Nineteen restaurants from other regions also made the list.

US Presence

Two US restaurants, New York City's Atomix and SingleThread from Healdsburg, California, made the cut for the 50 Best Restaurants, with Atomix coming in 6th and SingleThread at 47th.

Asian Representation

Tokyo hosted three restaurants, including Sézanne, which ranked the highest at 15. Hong Kong saw two restaurants earn their place, with both making impressive strides: Wing debuted at 20, while The Chairman rose from last year's 50th spot to 26.

Compiling the List

The The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy created the list based on votes from 1,080 international restaurant industry experts, comprised of food writers and chefs from 27 distinct regions. The winners are only allowed to receive the top prize once; upon doing so, they're added to a "Best of the Best" program. Geranium and Noma from Copenhagen, Eleven Madison Park in New York City, The Fat Duck near London, Osteria Francescana in Modena, Italy, and Mirazur in Menton, France have already earned this honor, and last year's victor, Central from Lima, has now joined their ranks.
