The Tiguan and three Chinese vehicle models have been given five-star ratings by Euro NCAP.
The Euro NCAP safety assessment team recently tested five new car models. To everyone's delight, three of these models (two from China and the new VW Tiguan) received five-star ratings! However, the Ford Tourneo Custom, a derivative of the Transit Custom minivan, fell short with just three stars.
The five stars for the VW Tiguan aren't a surprise, considering it's been a crowd-pleaser. In the recently released version, we see excellent crash protection even in the economical Life trim level, and it comes packed with advanced accident avoidance technology. Furthermore, this version offers safety features geared towards young passengers, with standard side airbags and warning systems against leaving children in the car and preventing it from tipping over.
Two Zeekr models from Geely, a Chinese car manufacturer, also received perfect marks. The luxury electric car 001, planned for release soon, meets all requirements. The electric compact SUV X, which will debut in Germany later this year at around 45,000 Euros, shares the same positive fate.
Euro NCAP generously awarded five stars to the electric Mifa 7 van from Maxus, a subsidiary of SAIC. Like its predecessor, the Mifa 9, which earned five stars in 2022, the Mifa 7 is expected to arrive in Germany in the fall with a price tag of approximately 60,000 Euros.
On the other hand, the Ford Tourneo Custom, capable of seating up to nine people, received a meager three stars. While this may seem out of place since the commercial vehicle variant, Transit Custom, scored the highest Platinum rating for van safety, the two have distinct rating criteria. And as an additional note, if the Tourneo Custom had opted for an extra safety package, four stars would have been achievable.
Conclusion:
To sum it up, three of the five tested car models received five-star ratings. The VW Tiguan, two Zeekr models, and the Mifa 7 van are now recognized as safe car options. Only the Ford Tourneo Custom fell short, receiving three stars but with potential for improvement.
