Thousands upon thousands of devoted fans of the popular global rock act Scorpions, helmed by vocalist Klaus Meine (76), were hit with disheartening news on August 23rd (Friday): The band was forced to abruptly terminate their whole German tour schedule, as indicated on their official Instagram account. The announcement cited "the cancellation of all upcoming German shows in September 2024" due to an injury endured by Matthias Jabs (68).

It was further disclosed that "Matthias Jabs' injury [...] necessitates an operation and subsequent recovery period." The specific details surrounding the injury are not touched upon in the announcement. Nonetheless, the "Bild" newspaper had earlier reported that Jabs had suffered a fall down some stairs during his Sylt vacation on August 22nd (Thursday) and subsequently broke his heel and a fingertip.

Sympathy to the "Rock Aficionados in Germany"

The tour cancellations have also been listed on the band's official website. Initially, the Scorpions were set to perform in the Czech Republic on September 7th before returning to their German origins. The affected shows include Nuremberg (September 11th), Hamburg (September 13th), Leipzig (September 15th), Cologne (September 18th), and Frankfurt (September 20th).

The band's communication goes on to express their sincere regret, primarily to Matthias Jabs, due to the mishap that has forced the cancellation of their five German concerts as initially planned in September. They appeal to "all the rock lovers [...] for empathy" and pledge to "announce any substitute dates as soon as they become available." According to the announcement, over 40,000 individuals who had previously bought tickets for the events have been impacted by the tour termination.

The unfortunate injury sustained by Matthias Jabs requires him to undergo an operation and take time for recovery, hence the cancellation of the Scorpions' German tour shows in September. Many rock enthusiasts in Germany are affected by this unexpected turn of events and will have to wait for rescheduled dates.
