American hip-hop artist Eminem - The recently released song "Houdini" sparks debates.
After a four-year break from releasing an album, hip-hop legend Eminem (51) is back with fresh tracks. His recently released single "Houdini," which comes from his upcoming twelfth studio album "The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)", has generated a lot of buzz.
True to form, the notorious rapper addresses controversial subjects in his lyrics. In "Houdini," he says farewell to his alter ego, Slim Shady, and takes aim at various targets with his blunt lines. However, his words are often ambiguous, making their true meaning difficult to decipher.
RuPaul receives a harsh denouncement
The most explicit allegation is directed at drag queen icon RuPaul (63), who is referred to as "snake ass," "male transvestite," and "fake slut" throughout the track.
Eminem also takes a jab at Megan Thee Stallion (29), the rapper who was shot in the feet in 2020 following a tussle with Tory Lanez (31). Additionally, he throws a slight at disgraced singer R. Kelly (57), who was found guilty of sexual misconduct.
Self-deprecating humor amidst the insults
Despite being accused of homophobia numerous times, the uproar over Eminem's latest effort remains contained. It appears that the rapper intends the insults to serve a comedic and dramatic purpose.
This is evident when he declares his love for his children before using harsh language towards them, or makes sarcastic remarks about his own cat. One such example is, "My transgender cat is Siamese / Identifies as black, but behaves like Chinese."
Amusing himself with his cruel words
Eminem also pokes fun at himself in the song, touching on the drug addiction that plagued him at the start of his career. One notable line reads, "I'm a bigger asshole than cacti are / That's why these words pierce you, like you're being attacked by bees."
His supporters have already praised the song as a new classic from the hip-hop titan. Comments on his Instagram post about the new track reflect their excitement.
