- The musical group calls off all concerts scheduled for 2024.
It's now unfortunately confirmed for all Queens of the Stone Age fans that their remaining concerts for this year are off the schedule, as announced on the band's Instagram on August 23rd. "QOTSA regret to inform you about the cancellation/postponement of all remaining shows for 2024," the post reads. A total of seven gigs in the USA are affected, with four getting a new date and the rest getting axed altogether.
The reason behind this setback is frontman Josh Homme's ongoing health issues, which had already led to several cancellations earlier. The band's statement reads, "Josh has had to prioritize his health and attend to necessary medical care for the remainder of the year." The band expressed optimism about possibly restarting in 2025.
Homme's Health Woes Force a Break
As early as July this year, several concerts had to be called off due to Homme's health predicament, including one in Germany. "Queens of the Stone Age regret to announce that Josh Homme must fly back to the States immediately for an emergency surgery," the announcement stated at that time. The band was initially scheduled to perform in Berlin on July 16th. Their last performance was on July 6th in Milan. With this new announcement, it appears the band will be off the stage for at least half a year.
The specific reason behind Homme's need for surgery remains vague based on the current information. Last year, Homme publicly disclosed his cancer diagnosis. At the time, he shared that he had overcome the illness.
Given Homme's health issues, the expected 'Concert release' for the remaining Queens of the Stone Age shows in 2024 has been put on hold. Despite expressing optimism for a 2025 comeback, there seems to be a 'Concert release' delay due to frontman Josh Homme's prioritized medical care.
