- The municipal transit authority, BVG, is modifying the scheduling of various subway lines.
due to technical issues with the aged U-Bahn fleet handled by the Berlin Public Transport Agency (BVG), commuters might encounter delays and cancellations on certain lines on a daily basis. However, minor alterations to the timetable are set to address these issues soon. After the summer break, minor adjustments will be made to the U2, U9, U4, and U1 and U3 lines. These changes aim to enhance the overall system's stability, according to the company's announcement.
Lengthening of intervals on the U2 and U9
During school hours, the U2 line will operate at an interval of 4.5 minutes, rather than 4 minutes, for about a year. Trains consisting of a maximum of eight cars are anticipated for this change.
On the U9, the BVG is currently dealing with problems related to numerous worn-out wheelsets. Consequently, during peak hours, starting September 2, the trains will run with an interval of 5 minutes, instead of 4 minutes.
On the U1 and U3 lines, the interval remains unchanged. However, between 6:00 AM and early morning, as well as from 9:00 PM onwards, the U3 line will operate continuously between Warschauer Straße and Krumme Lanke.
During these hours, starting September 9, the U1 line will run between Nollendorfplatz and Uhlandstraße stations only. Notably, this will not affect the passengers except for the train designation change.
With these adjustments, the BVG aims to regain its reputation for reliability.
Additionally, changes to the timetable on the U4 line are planned. Currently, trains run every 5 minutes during peak hours in the morning and afternoon, and every 10 minutes during the day and evening. Going forward, a continuous 6/6/7-minute interval is intended.
"With these modifications to the U-Bahn operations, we aim to become more reliable for our passengers," said BVG CEO Henrik Falk. "In doing so, we maintain the current offer and make it more stable until the new vehicles arrive."
The BVG is currently confronting an outdated vehicle fleet. Some of these vehicles have been in service for around 60 years. Replacements have been ordered for a long time, but delays in the tender process and technical issues in delivery have prevented their operation until next year.
The Consumer experience on certain U-Bahn lines might be affected due to the changes in the timetable. These adjustments, such as lengthening intervals on the U2 and U9, are being implemented to enhance the overall system's stability.
Given the challenges with the Consumer-facing Berlin Public Transport Agency (BVG) fleet, it's crucial for passengers to stay updated with the latest schedule changes.
