King Felipe - The monarch missed Spain's European Championship triumph
Spain made it to the semifinals of the EM 2024 after a nerve-wracking extension. But the Spanish royal family? They missed it. At least live at the stadium in Stuttgart. King Felipe VI. (56) had to honor military officers in Spain.
The social media appearance of "Casa de S.M. el Rey", which informs about the activities of the Spanish royal family, showed X the King in military uniform during the ceremony for the delivery of royal dispatches to the new sergeant major class of the "Academia General Básica de Suboficiales" (dt. Allgemeine Grundakademie der Unteroffiziere) in Talarn, in the Catalan province of Lleida in northeastern Spain.
The Spanish King was accompanied by his daughter, Princess Leonor (18), who for the first time wore the military uniform with decorations of an Alferia-Dame. The official rank of Officer-cadet, which she received from her father after completing her training at the General Military Academy of Saragossa on July 3.
Felipe comes back to the stadium only for the final
Felipe VI. followed the match between Spain and Italy live at the stadium in Gelsenkirchen. Queen Letizia (51) and the two daughters, Leonor and Sofia (17), were not present. After Spain's 1:0 win against Italy, the Monarch personally congratulated the team in the dressing room. When he was surprised by Captain Álvaro Morata (31) with a Spain jersey with his name and the number 10, Felipe told the "Furia Roja" that he would wear this jersey at every one of their games. He unfortunately would not be able to come back to the EM until ... No, he wouldn't say that out loud!
The final match of the European Championship takes place on July 14 at the Berlin Olympic Stadium.
