The Maldives plans to restrict entry to Israeli citizens due to ongoing conflict in Gaza.

The government of a picturesque Indian Ocean island nation with famous resorts and long white beaches declared on Sunday that it would ban ties with Israel.

The Maldives president, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, decided to impose the ban based on a recommendation from the cabinet, according to the official statement.

Laws in the country will be modified, and a new committee will be set up to direct these efforts, the president's office revealed.

After the ban declaration, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs advised Israelis to forego trips to the island and suggested that Israelis currently in the island may consider leaving because "assistance would be difficult" if they encounter any difficulties.

President Muizzu is designating a special emissary to evaluate the requirements of Palestinians and organizing a fundraiser in collaboration with UNRWA, according to the statement.

Muizzu is also organizing a nationwide event with the slogan "Maldivians with Palestine," which means "Maldivians in Solidarity with Palestine."

This announcement followed the news just a few days earlier when the president denounced an Israeli airstrike that killed at least 45 Palestinians and injured more than 200 in the Rafah camp.

"Along with the government and people of the Maldives, I appeal for an immediate ceasefire, a halt to violence, and unrestricted humanitarian assistance," the president announced last week on social media.
