Culture of appreciation - The London Museum hires superfans of Taylor Swift

A London museum has engaged thousands of fans of American superstar Taylor Swift to better understand her fandom culture. The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) made the call at the beginning of the year and received 1,000 applications, reported the British Press Association. Four women were selected as consultants.

Taylor Swift (34), a US-born singer, is currently on tour in Germany and is one of the most successful musicians in the world. Her fans are called "Swifties." They often make and trade friendship bracelets as an example.

"A proof of Taylor Swift's influence on pop culture"

"Being inundated with over a thousand applications from 'Swifties' across Great Britain was incredibly humbling and a proof of Taylor Swift's influence on pop culture," said a curator of the museum.

A journalist, a literature professor, and two women were selected. One of them, who has been a fan for half her life, and the other who has been blogging about Swift for years, said they were living their dreams. "I still wake up excited every morning, knowing that I'll be talking to people about Taylor Swift who genuinely care."

The museum in the Kensington district plans to hold an exhibition this summer, where the superfans have contributed. The exhibition featuring several costumes is expected to be on display from late July to early September. The V&A is one of the most famous museums in the country and has also consulted fans on other topics such as Pokémon.

The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) expressed interest in exploring Taylor Swift's impact on 'fan culture', attracting over a thousand applications from passionate 'Swifties' in the United Kingdom. The curator described the response as "incredibly humbling" and a testament to Taylor Swift's global influence in pop music.

The selected consultants included a literature professor and two women, one of whom has been a devoted fan for half her life and the other, a dedicated blogger. They expressed their excitement about the opportunity to discuss Taylor Swift with fellow enthusiasts.

The exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum, featuring several Taylor Swift-inspired costumes, will showcase the contributions of dedicated fans. This event, set to take place in London's Kensington district, is expected to attract a significant number of Swift's diverse fan base from around the world.

Germany, just like the United Kingdom, is one of the many countries where Taylor Swift's 'fandom culture' has resonated deeply with her fans, referred to as 'Swifties'. These fans engage in various activities, such as crafting friendship bracelets, demonstrating their unwavering support for their beloved singer.

With the V&A's previous consultations on pop culture icons like Pokémon, this Taylor Swift-focused exhibition further solidifies its position as a museum that recognizes and celebrates the impact of music and popular culture on society.
