The "legend" stays: Thomas Müller extends his contract with FC Bayern

As expected, FC Bayern Munich has extended the contract with international footballer Thomas Müller by one year until the end of June 2025. The boss praises the uniqueness of the attacking player, who has long since ceased to be a regular this season.

He is no longer a regular, but FC Bayern still considers its veteran Thomas Müller to be indispensable. The Munich club have announced that they have extended the 34-year-old's contract, which was due to expire at the end of the season, by a further year. "I want to play my part in ensuring that we remain successful - as a team and as a club as a whole. It's important for me to be a building block and help steer the team in the right direction," said Müller.

For President Herbert Hainer, the experienced player "belongs to FC Bayern like the Frauenkirche belongs to Munich. He was born on the outskirts of the city, grew up in this club and was already a legend during his playing days - very few people manage that. FC Bayern has been shaped by many personalities, and there will never be another player like Thomas Müller."

Under coach Thomas Tuchel, Müller's role has become smaller and smaller. He has made 18 competitive appearances so far this season, but has only started five times, most recently last Sunday in the 3-0 win over VfB Stuttgart, when numerous regular players were absent.

Müller joined Bayern in 2000 when he was just ten years old from the village club TSV Pähl, and his breakthrough with the professionals came in the 2009/2010 season under coach Louis van Gaal, who soon immortalized himself with the phrase: "Müller always plays." Müller has played 684 games for Munich to date, only a few fewer than goalkeeper Sepp Maier (706). He is the German record holder with twelve championship titles to date, and he also won the Champions League in 2013 and 2020 and the World Cup title with the national team in 2014.
