"Downton Abbey 3" - The historical drama continues in the fall

After two film continuations of the popular series "Downton Abbey," the release date for the third part has finally been set: September 12, 2025, is when the Crawley family and their assortment of maids, butlers, cooks, drivers, and wealthy relatives will return to the screen.

The historical drama "Downton Abbey 3" has been in production in Britain since May. The script, like that of its cinematic predecessors, is by creator Julian Fellowes (74). Simon Curtis (director of the 2022 released second part) is once again at the helm.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the result. The announcement of the release date on the official Instagram page of "Downton Abbey" received thousands of likes in a short time.

What's next for the Crawleys?

[Spoiler alert: "Downton Abbey II: A New Era" ends in the late 1920s with the sad death of Lady Violet Crawley (Maggie Smith, 89), who passes the scepter to her granddaughter, Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery, 42), to keep things running at Downton. No details about the plot of the sequel have been released yet. However, new actors are joining the cast, as reported by "Variety."

Character actor Paul Giamatti (57) will reprise his role as Harold Levinson, the US playboy brother of Cora, played by Elizabeth McGovern (62), in the film "Downton Abbey 3." Also joining the cast are Joely Richardson (59), Alessandro Nivola (51), Simon Russell Beale (63), and Arty Froushan (31) in previously unnamed roles.

The grand finale

Actress Imelda Staunton (68), who plays Maud Bagshaw, the Queen's maid in both previous films, revealed in March that there would be a third and final film in the series: "There will be one more film - you've got it," she told "BBC Radio 2."

Baby joy on set

"Downton Abbey" star Joanne Froggatt (43), who plays Anna Bates, the housemaid, is expecting her first child. The actress revealed her baby bump to the public for the first time at the Into Film Awards in London on Tuesday (June 25), wearing a red, form-fitting minidress. How she hid her bump during filming will presumably be revealed in September 2025.
