- The fourth season has come to an end.
Is there a chance that fictional English football team AFC Richmond will contest for the league title once more? As per the reliably informative American site "Deadline", they are reportedly on the brink of renewing the popular Apple TV+ series "Ted Lasso" for a fourth season. Furthermore, the production company behind the show, Warner Bros. Television, has allegedly signed three actors from previous seasons.
As per the report, Hannah Waddingham (50), Brett Goldstein (44), and Jeremy Swift (64) are set to reprise their roles. Waddingham portrays the club owner, Rebecca Welton, who initially opposes Lasso, while Swift takes on the role of her timid sports director, Leslie Higgins. Goldstein, originally the grumpy, aging pro Roy Kent, has evolved into a grumpy trainer and fan favorite in the series.
Regarding the title character, Jason Sudeikis (48), the report suggests he may continue as the series' executive producer. However, his role in the leading part is yet to be confirmed.
The reason why Waddingham, Goldstein, and Swift are the first names in consideration for the season 4 cast is due to their membership in a British actors' union, different from their American counterparts. Negotiations with them are expected soon.
A Series Closure with a Potential Loophole
Although the third season of "Ted Lasso" provided a satisfying conclusion, as acknowledged by Channing Dungey (55), head of Warner Bros. TV, she left room for future possibilities, stating, "Well, you've seen the finale. There's a little door that could be reopened if needed." She further added, "I wouldn't put a full stop at the end of that sentence yet. The love for 'Ted Lasso' is still strong. And I think Apple's enthusiasm for 'Ted Lasso' is still strong. If the opportunity arises, we would love to come back and do more."
The series is brimming with on-field and off-field dramas, opening up opportunities for new episodes. Although AFC Richmond, under the guidance of the unique trainer Ted Lasso, narrowly missed out on the English championship in season 3, they managed to clinch qualification for the Champions League as the second in the Premier League. This means the team will now venture into foreign territories for their first-ever away matches in European countries.
Due to their membership in a British actors' union, Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift are the first names in consideration for the Season 4 cast. Despite Chadding Dungey acknowledging a satisfying conclusion to the third season of "Ted Lasso", she left a potential loophole open, suggesting, "There's a little door that could be reopened if needed."
