The female team from Bayern stays undefeated while being part of the sixth squad in Bundesliga.
Ewa Pajor had an astonishing performance against SGS Essen as she said goodbye to VfL Wolfsburg. The women's soccer team of FC Bayern accomplished a fantastic feat on the last Bundesliga matchday: they managed to remain unbeaten in their 22nd game, making them the sixth team overall to end the season without any losses.
Similarly, Bayern Munich's women's soccer team, just like Bayer Leverkusen's men's team, managed to escape their final Bundesliga game unharmed. Coach Alexander Straus' team beat TSG Hoffenheim 4:1 (1:1) in their last Bundesliga match and became the first team since VfL Wolfsburg four years ago to win after 22 games without a single defeat.
Munich was the sixth team in the 34-year history of the women's Bundesliga to win the title without defeat. The first team to achieve this feat was TSV Siegen in 1992. 1. FFC Frankfurt remained undefeated in 2002 and 2007, as did Bayern for the first time in 2015 and Wolfsburg five years later.
However, Wolfsburg's star player Eva Pajor stole the show in the cup winners' 6-0 (5-0) win over SGS Essen, scoring a perfect hat-trick before halftime in her last game for the Wolves before her planned move abroad. The 30-year-old, who helped Wolfsburg win five championships and nine cups, added goals 16, 17, and 18 to reach a total of 137 goals in the Lower Saxony jersey after nine years of playing 196 games.
Apart from the leading duo, Eintracht Frankfurt concluded the season on a positive note. The Hessians, who can join Munich in the top-tier league through the Champions League qualifiers, won 1:0 (1:0) against 1. FC Köln. At the bottom of the table, bottom club MSV Duisburg's hope for a win in their final game against 1. FC Nürnberg in a relegation duel failed as they lost 1:2 (0:1).
The promoted teams still haven't been determined. On the final second division matchday next Sunday, leaders and former champions Turbine Potsdam (52 points) and chasing duo Carl Zeiss Jena (51) and SV Meppen (50) will compete in a three-way battle for the two open spots in the top flight.
