- The differences from a normal season
Sonja Zietlow (56) and Jan Köppen (41) will present "I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! Showdown of the Jungle Legends" on RTL+ from August 15 (also on RTL from August 16). The Allstars season with 13 former contestants promises some changes that set this special edition apart from a regular season.
Who decides on trials?
This time, the Allstars season will take place in South Africa, not Australia, where the reality show was previously filmed in 2022 due to potential COVID-19 travel restrictions. The winner of the €100,000 prize will not be decided by the audience, as the Allstars edition was pre-recorded, allowing RTL+ viewers to stream the latest episode a day early. On RTL, the episode will air a day later, starting at 8:15 PM instead of the usual late-night slot.
The audience will have no influence on who will face the jungle trial or leave the camp. "A lot will be decided in trials and within the team," explains Sonja Zietlow in an RTL interview. "You can't blame the audience anymore for deciding things from the outside, and you can't say you're not really responsible or can't influence it," adds Jan Köppen. "In the end, they'll have to look each other in the eye and say, 'Why did you say I should do this or leave?'" This creates a new level of tension, according to the host.
No fixed rules
Zietlow says, "For example, if you don't win a trial, you might have to go home. That's a possibility." There will be consequences for what happens within the team. As reported by RTL.de, there are no fixed rules in the Allstars season. In a regular season, contestants must follow established rules and face penalties for any violations.
For the two hosts, the main change is the new broadcast format, says Sonja Zietlow. "We're not live, which means we don't have to do live shows or work all day and night. We'll go in a few times, make an announcement, and film many trials."
The change in filming location for the Allstars season from Australia to South Africa was primarily due to potential COVID-19 travel restrictions. Due to the pre-recording of the Allstars edition, the winner of the €100,000 prize won't be decided by the audience, as the coronavirus situation could have impacted live audience voting.
