The demise of the DFB cup draw's figurehead: Hermann Selbherr has passed away.

Hermann Selbherr was a frequent figure in the DFB-Pokal draws on TV for decades. At 90, this respected Allgäuer figure has sadly passed away. Yet, the German Football Association also assigned him less visible responsibilities.

Since time immemorial, Hermann Selbherr was the recognizable leader of the DFB-Pokal draws, but now this dedicated cup director has left us at the ripe age of 90. The German Football Association shared this news. Born in Wangener, Selbherr joined the DFB's match committee in 1986 and took charge of the DFB-Pokal draw ceremonies on TV from 1992 to 2007.

Furthermore, the erstwhile school principal acted as the DFB's Africa delegate to foster cross-cultural ties and accompanied the Togo national team, which was based in his hometown, during the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Selbherr also attended over 100 international matches as a FIFA and UEFA delegate.

In appreciation for his service, Selbherr received the DFB's Golden Merit Badge in 2001, and he was honored with membership in the world's largest sports association as an honorary member in 2007. Selbherr was already an honorary member of the Württemberg Football Association since 2003. In 2017, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Despite his many responsibilities, Hermann Selbherr continues to be synonymous with the excitement of the DFB Cup draws on television. His contributions to the German Football Association extended beyond the televised ceremonies, including his involvement in the DFB Cup itself.
