The "defensive" Tuchel receives praise from the Bayern boss

Thomas Tuchel escalates, the criticism of the Bayern coach is huge because of the spat with Lothar Matthäus and Dietmar Hamann. But not from his club. On the contrary, President Herbert Hainer praises the coach. This jumping to the side comes too late for Thomas Hitzelsperger.

President Herbert Hainer considers Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel's reaction to the dispute with former national team players Lothar Matthäus and Dietmar Hamann to be appropriate and understandable. "I think it's good that Thomas has now put up a stop sign. I like the fact that he is so defensive," said Hainer on MagentaSport. "He has enough pressure, like all of us at Bayern."

Tuchel has been at loggerheads with Sky analysts Lothar Matthäus and Dietmar Hamann for weeks. The dispute escalated on the sidelines of last Saturday's classic in Dortmund (4:0), when Tuchel appeared petulant and sarcastic in several interviews.

"He has enough pressure, like all of us at Bayern," said Hainer, adding with regard to Matthäus and Hamann: "Anyone can express their opinion and criticize. Sometimes you got the impression that everything was in ruins and we were playing against relegation." He emphasized that the opposite was the case: "We haven't lost a game yet and have won all our matches in the Champions League. Yes, we were knocked out of the cup. Not good, but that can happen."

Thomas Hitzlsperger expressed his understanding for Tuchel's cynical reaction to the criticism on Sunday evening. "It built up over a week or two," explained the former international on the BR program "Blickpunkt Sport". The 41-year-old was surprised by the long verbal restraint of Tuchel's superiors, he said, without knowing about Hainer's previously unknown reaction. "In the past, Hoeneß or Rummenigge would have cleared something like that up. That hasn't happened now. And I find it irritating that Tuchel now has to decide for himself: Do I resist now? Or where is the support from the club?", remarked Hitzlsperger.

He believes that the after-effects of the turbulent summer of transfers at FC Bayern could continue to play a role. Several planned deals did not materialize. "He would have needed two more players. Now the squad is so thin that he will react in the same way and the club may not have helped him beforehand," the former midfielder said. Hitzlsperger added: "Perhaps he doesn't feel the support he needs at the moment. When he's under attack, he needs people behind him. If he doesn't feel that, he has to defend himself."
