The Darmstadt lander is completely off-line.
Relegated Darmstadt 98 also finds itself at the bottom of the 2. Bundesliga table after the 2nd matchday. The Hessians lead in Paderborn but then lose heavily. Hannover 96 surprisingly misses out on a perfect start to the season.
SC Paderborn - SV Darmstadt 98 3:1 (0:1)
The flawless SC Paderborn surprisingly tops the 2. Bundesliga table. The SCP defeated Darmstadt 98 after being behind, winning 3:1 (0:1) and becoming the only team to achieve a perfect six-point start. Bundesliga relegated side Darmstadt remains pointless after its opening home defeat against Fortuna Düsseldorf.
An early goal from Oscar Vilhemsson (7') set the tone for the game. Paderborn struggled with Darmstadt's early pressing and gave away the ball too quickly. Darmstadt seemed to be in control for the first half-hour, but then Marcel Schuhen tipped a header from Filip Bilbija onto the crossbar (33'). Sven Michel (45.+1) also hit the post.
Paderborn came out strong in the second half, equalizing through Sebastian Klaas (53'). The hosts, who had won their opening match against Hertha BSC, pushed for a win and succeeded with goals from Bilbija (64') and Ilyas Ansah (83'), securing the victory.
Eintracht Braunschweig - 1. FC Magdeburg 1:3 (0:1)
Braunschweig's alarm bells are ringing early: The team has once again shown a dismal defensive performance, ruining its season start. A week after losing 1:5 to Schalke 04, the Lower Saxons lost 1:3 (0:1) to 1. FC Magdeburg in their 2nd matchday. Dutch newcomer Martijn Kaars scored his first goals in German professional football (13' and 55'), and Silas Gnaka (59') also found the net for Magdeburg. Rayan Philippe's goal (67') was not enough for Braunschweig.
Before the match, Braunschweig's coach Daniel Scherning said, "Our goal is to defend better than we did last week. That's what we have to do in the 2. Bundesliga" - but it didn't happen. Braunschweig had a chance to take the lead in the 4th minute, but Dominik Reimann saved for Magdeburg. The guests, who had drawn 0:0 against SV Elversberg in their opening match, took the lead with their first opportunity.
Magdeburg pushed for more goals in the second half, with Kaars and Gnaka extending their lead. After Philippe's goal, Braunschweig had a glimmer of hope, but their finishing was poor.
SC Preußen Münster - Hannover 96 0:0
Meanwhile, Hannover 96, Braunschweig's Lower Saxony rival, also missed out on a perfect start and disappointed. Coach Stefan Leitl's team had to settle for a 0:0 draw against Preußen Münster after a poor performance. Goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler made several crucial saves in his 350th appearance for 96. Hannover had won their opening match against Jahn Regensburg 2:0.
The hosts kicked off in front of 12,422 spectators at the sold-out Preußen Stadium, showing great courage. Malik Batmaz missed a brace of chances but was thwarted by the alert Zieler (13.). The Lower Saxons had little to offer offensively in the first half. A half-time lead for the promoted side would have been well-deserved, but Batmaz found Zieler again in his way when unmarked (36.).
Leitl responded to his team's disappointing start to the second half by making a double substitution, but the desired effect was initially not forthcoming. A deflected shot from substitute Andreas Voglsammer did at least cause some concern (62.). On the other hand, Zieler was also equal to Luca Bazzoli's effort (75.).**
In injury time, Hannover's Jessic Ngankam hit the crossbar, but the assistant referee had already raised his flag for offside.
Despite their strong start, Hannover 96 failed to secure a win against SC Preußen Münster, settling for a draw. The relegated side SV Darmstadt 98, however, continues to struggle, still searching for its first points after a 3:1 loss to SC Paderborn.
